Parke Burgess

Parke Burgess returns to conducting after 20 years of doing other things. In the 1990s he served as Music Director of the Lake Union Civic Orchestra, the Everett Youth Symphonies, and Director of Orchestras at California State University, Stanislaus. Since leaving music, Parke worked at Sightline Institute for five years, spent a year training at a Zen monastery, wrote a book on violence, and helped raise a family. In 2012 he opened a private psychotherapy practice. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in orchestral conducting from the University of Washington and a Bachelor of Arts degree in music theory and history from Yale. His conducting teachers included Otto-Werner Mueller, Charles Bruck, and Peter Eros.

The Salish Sea Philharmonia Orchestra (SSPO) is an all-volunteer community orchestra now forming in Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. Our mission is to gather amateur musicians to create and enjoy great symphonic music together and to perform for the general public at low cost. We aspire to foster human connection within the community and to celebrate the profound creativity, beauty, and harmony of which humans are capable.

We would love to hear from you:
