The SSPO is in the early stages of formation. We are now trying to get a sense of how much demand there is in our area for a new all-volunteer community orchestra. So please let us know if you are interested!

Of course we are aware that the Covid-19 pandemic needs to subside before the orchestra can begin to meet, and certainly before we give public performances. But this forced hiatus gives us time to develop all the infrastructure we need to start with a full head of steam once that becomes possible.

We already feel gratified and optimistic based on folks who have already expressed enthusiastic interest in the orchestra. But please spread the word; we will need many more to get started.

In addition to more musicians, we are looking for a home--a place to rehearse and perform, hopefully one that already has chairs, stands, and even percussion equipment on hand. If you have any ideas, especially if they are located in Pierce County and fairly easily accessible from all directions, please let us know at contact@salishphil.org. Thanks!

The planned first concert season currently includes works by Beethoven, Rossini, Rimsky-Korsakov, Rachmaninoff, Britten, and Brahms.

The Salish Sea Philharmonia Orchestra (SSPO) is an all-volunteer community orchestra now forming in Tacoma, Pierce County, Washington. Our mission is to gather amateur musicians to create and enjoy great symphonic music together and to perform for the general public at low cost. We aspire to foster human connection within the community and to celebrate the profound creativity, beauty, and harmony of which humans are capable.

We would love to hear from you:
